What's Happening in the Seppala Siberian Sleddog World

Sleddog Legacy Online --
A Real-time, Continuous, Online Sleddog Newsletter!

Whitehorse, Yukon Territory - 6 August 2005

THERE IS NOW a new information source for people interested in recreational dog driving and historic sleddog breeds. It's called "Sleddog Legacy Online." Sponsored by the Seppala Siberian Sleddog Project and the International Seppala Association, the new newsletter is free and open to the public. It has no deadlines and no issues, but instead is published continuously in real time on the Internet.

For some time there have been calls for a newsletter, especially one for fanciers of Seppalas. The great obstacle has been high postal charges and printing costs, relative to public willingness to pay for such a newsletter. For two years in the mid-1990s the Seppala Siberian Sleddog Project sponsored a Seppala newsletter, called "Seppala Network," which published six large, information-packed issues during that period. Finally the combined workload of negotiations with Agriculture Canada for the recognition of Seppalas and publication of the newsletter became too great and the publication folded. In the years 2000 and 2001 Deron Kazmaier and Doug Willett published two issues of a "Seppala News" newsletter, but nothing since then.

The new publication will serve as a vehicle for news and announcements from the Seppala Siberian Sleddog Project, the International Seppala Association, the Working Canine Association of Canada, the "SeppalaSiberianSleddog," "LegacySleddogs," and "ChinookSledDogs" Yahoo! groups email lists, SledDogBlog, Seppala Kennels, and Tullibardine Farms Chinooks. It will also publish general interest articles, sleddog news items, links, and information about breeding, genetics and similar topics of interest to fanciers of traditional and historic sleddog breeds and to recreational mushers. Submissions from readers are welcome and invited.
